Check Out What Others Are Saying… “There's a real risk with family history books that they can be dry and difficult, but this one is superb. The tone is light and friendly, and I loved the activity suggestions, the funny asides, and the true life  stories contributed by others who'd had their own adventures in family history. It starts by assuming that you're completely new to the pursuit but does it without being patronizing and very quickly reaches a level which even experienced genealogists can benefit from. It's a joy to read, and I raced through it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

My mother got into genealogy years ago, not long after I had a large family tree project in school, which started us on the path to discovering ancestors hundreds of years back. My mother has continued this passion, and I know this book is a definite gift for her. It not only helps the inexperienced get started on genealogy, but offer tips and ideas for doing more with our family that is still with us, and relates some truly inspirational stories about how our ancestors may be gone, but their helping hands can be felt throughout our lives, especially when we seek to learn more about where we came from. I love every anecdote and story in this book, and all the wonderful tips and advice, and cannot wait to make a gift out of it for Mom and others.

I didn’t know where to start, but I was curious about my family and my ancestors.  This book helped me take baby steps.  I have found out a lot about my ancestors online and now this is my new addiction.  Why binge-watch dumb TV shows when you could discover more about yourself by exploring your family tree?

Ben Affleck wants to hide his ancestors

                                  AFFLECK: HIDE MY SLAVE-OWNER ANCESTOR

Actor Ben Affleck put the PBS documentary series “Finding Your Roots” in a tough spot when he begged for the show not to reveal he had a slave-owning ancestor, emails published b Wikileaks reveal. Affleck had asked the Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, the host of the show, to censor the information.

“Here’s my dilemma: confidentially, for the first time, one of our guests has asked us to edit out something about one of his ancestors–the fact that he owned slaves. Now, four or five of our guests this season descend from slave owners, including Ken Burns.

We’ve never had anyone ever try to censor or edit what we found. He’s a megastar. What do we do?” Gates wrote in an email to Sony chief executive Michael Lynton on July 22, 2014. PBS did not end up including the segment, however Gates said the reason was they found a more interesting ancestor, not censorship. PBS says it was unaware of the discussions between Gates and Sony

Guide to Irish Genealogy

One of these days I'm going to get over to Ireland as an excuse to travel and do my genealogy!  Many Americans have some ancestry that leads them to the beautiful green island.  We wear our Irish heritage with pride on St. Patrick's Day, but we often have trouble doing the research to discover our roots!

I found a terrific online genealogy resource kit for tracing your ancestry in Ireland!   You can check out their genealogy pack when you

If you purchase this pack from them, you will learn about the following:
  • What you will need to begin your search.
  • Information on how to research your roots
  • History of Irish Genealogy Data
  • Details of records available on the Internet
  • Details of records available offline and how and where to locate this historical data.
  • Tools that will simplify your search for your ancestors, such as pedigree charts and family tree templates and other useful research tools.
The document outlines the different resources at your disposal to allow you to access Irish genealogy records for tracing your Irish Family Tree. It is structured in a step by step manner whereby the most readily available resources (i.e. those on the internet) are outlined first. This makes the process more user friendly, whereby if you find information about your ancestors early in your search, it makes subsequent searches of offline resources in Ireland and Worldwide much more straightforward.

May the luck of the Irish be with you!  To get access to all of these great Irish records,  Click Here!

Do celebrities have better roots than the rest of us?

Former "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow is taking celebs back to their roots for the family tree reality series "Who Do You Think You Are?" "It's far from the E! True Hollywood Story.

We have a tendency to put celebrities on a pedestal. No show has treated stars this way before,' Dan Bucatinsky added. "Who Do You Think You Are?" is a 42-minute show with commercials, and producers are working closely with a team of historians and genealogists to trace back celebs' roots. NBC.com is working on a partnership with online genealogy powerhouse Ancestry.com to create a cross-platform interactive Web site to coincide with the launch of the series. The hope is that people will tune in because it's Sarah Jessica Parker or Susan Sarandon," Kudrow said.
